An ode to adventure

This is an excerpt from a bite Kavita Krishnan had given a news crew during the Delhi protests in front of Sheila Dikshit's house demanding justice to rape victims. I feel like I've barely done justice to her message, so I'd encourage everyone to watch the full clip below:

Something I was working on...

Well, it's been close to a month since my last post (again) and that nagging voice is back. I've been busy with an illustration course and haven't had much of a chance to work on comics, so I thought I'd post one of my designs instead. This is an illustration of one of my favourite poems (which isn't really saying much because heaven knows I'm not a poetry gal) - Invictus, by William Henley.

Ode to Apple

My one wish for the upcoming iPhone 5 launch... though on second thought, it would be pretty cool if it could wash my car.

In the great tradition of Comic sonnets as heralded by XKCD, this should be read to the tune of the element song.

Marketing 101

In case anybody missed it, this comic is referencing '18 again',  a Vaginal tightening cream to hit the Indian market and their epic, epic ad campaign. Anybody who hasn't already, watch it now, but be warned, that feeling of your eyes and ears being violated never really goes away.

The Bystander

I hate the idea of arm-chair activism but I have to get this off my chest: If we reach a point where an underage girl can be molested on a busy open highway, by some 30 odd men who feel no fear or shame at the sight of an accompanying camera, nor does the cameraman feel he can take any action to stop them... then the fault can't possibly lie with one man or even thirty. Somewhere, in some capacity, the fault lies with all of us.
As a society, we have failed.

Minimalist Movie Posters

So, this month's post (or fortnight's, or year's... reliability isn't exactly this blog's forte) is a bit of a departure from tradition. I stumbled across this pretty awesome minimalist Bollywood posters facebook page and ever since, I've had the idea in my head to try out a few myself. I tried to stick to Indian movies, but realised pretty quickly I haven't seen one since 'The Dirty Picture'.

So here they are, in no particular order of relevance except that they're the ones I thought of first. Obviously my design skills need a bit of work (and how!) but overall I'm pretty pleased with how these bad boys turned out. I am already researching ways I can legally MARRY Adobe Illustrator.

Amar Akbar Anthony
One of my all time favourite oldies (Also one of the very few oldies I've even watched)

The Great Debaters
(I was heavily into Model UN's when I watched this the first time, perhaps that's why it always stuck)

Shawshank Redemption
Yes, I know the book perspective is totally wrong in this but in my defence, it was my first try and the
'How to draw a book from scratch' Illustrator tutorial only had ONE perspective!

The Dirty Picture

Well that's all folks! Again, let me know what you think, I'm always looking out for public validation.Oh and if you're hungry for more (and better) minimalist magic, check out the minimalist poster fan page here

Picture Perfect

Okay, so I'm being a bit of a hypocrite here since I DO Instagram now and then. But in my defence, I don't subject it on to everyone else on my timeline!
If you ask me, what happens in Instagram should STAY in Instagram.

The Smart(er) Phone

I'd just like to add, if there's one thing more hemorrhage inducing than a Smartphone with crappy battery life, it's a Smartphone with a crappy 3G connection. And can I just say, Airtel, the number of times you have driven me to borderline mass-murdering rage with your crappy service wins you the title of 'douchebag teleservice of the year'. Seriously, Vodafone for the win!!!

Photo Book

Wingdings.... Bill Gates had it right all along!

Also, while we're on the subject of Facebook, allow me to plug the new souped up In-Retort Facebook page!

Now you can complain about how I never update on a whole new platform! Sigh, Progress.
